So, Meier’s Creek Brewing Co put out a design contest to see who could create the best label for an upcoming beer they were brewing. Excelsior Amber Lager. Here were the deets:
“Calling all Central New York design and beer enthusiasts! This December, we’re releasing a 100% New York State made Amber Lager, and we’re looking for our design to be just as local as the ingredients. Enter our contest and be in the running for $200, a case of beer, and your original design printed on the cans. Do you have what it takes to design the winning label? “
I got straight to work. I first went to their current beer labels to get some design inspo and this is what I found:
OK. I see what they’ve been going with and I feel I have a good idea to begin moving forward. Hmmmm. New York. Excelsior. You know what, we had just rolled out new license plates and I wanted to check those out.
So I head on over to google and check out their tap room and social media pages for more inspiration. AHA! Their farm location was brand new and looked amazing so I began chopping up and re-creating the image to vector artwork: A little bit of vector magic and voila! Abra cadabra!
Cool right!!? So off I went with the rest of the label design. Let’s see what the rest looks like.
Well, I never heard a call back, email or anything so they went with someone else’s design. However I thought this was cool enough to throw into my own portfolio what do you think??
